The Ten Count
(Personal Power Series)

The going for our mouths is gonna get tough. Make sure your shoes are clean because most of us are gonna stuck our big foot in our loud mouth over the next few weeks.

To help us avoid more than one or two slight brushes with having to apologize and even be embarrassed, try using the ten count.

Yes it is as easy as it sounds.
But it is as difficult. Sometimes you have to count to twenty even.

The key is; BEFORE YOU SAY WHAT YOU THINK YOU SHOULD OR WANT TO SAY…..STOP!
THINK WHILE COUNTING.
If it seems awkward, politely ask for a moment to consider their input….comment…or
A moment to gather your thoughts.

While silent literally COUNT to ten or twenty. You may go as fast or slow as you like. A medium pace is good, with an in and out breath for each number.

This action helps to disrupt the circuit that our initial reaction is tied to, giving us a chance to reconsider before blundering.

Give it a try and let me know what you think. Please share any of your tips for keeping from saying the wrong thing with the class!
